Neil Young Wore a Gray Hippie Poncho; Patti Smith Wore Braids

See, I told you.

I'm a generation or so behind Patti Smith--so does that mean it's okay for me to wear braids?

This wasn't the only thing I took away from their informal appearance at BEA yesterday.  So much happened yesterday, in fact, eady receded.

One thing I did learn is that Neil Young is devastatingly charming and funny and quirky, so much so Patti was reduced to giggles, much of the time.  I loved that at 63, she could still collapse like a schoolgirl.

She asked who he was reading (this was BEA, after all), and he said first, "I'm not a voracious reader," and then he hesitated and said, "Well, I'm reading you."  He meant her book of course, but all of us girls in the audience gasped and Patti fell back in her chair.

I'm not kidding.  Read more about it the New Yorker online, from which I swiped the photo.  Google it if you have to.

(I've been plagued with tech crap all evening regarding this blog.  I guess Satan doesn't want me to blog tonight.  Or there's a poltergeist in my Twitter.  I've been working literally for hours on this post.  And this is all I have to show for it.)
